As I get older, I see more fine lines appearing and have to do my hair color more often, but all things considered, I’m easing into my new comfort zone taking it all in stride. I am very thankful to have picked up good habits that have kept me looking and feeling young! We all know the benefits of working out regularly, following a balanced diet, staying hydrated and let’s not forget about getting a good night’s sleep! As we age, adhering to a healthy lifestyle is just the first step of being fit and fierce over 50! Okay, those of you aren’t quite there yet may be thinking “I’m young, 50 is a long way away”, but take my advice and seize the day now! I have had too many friends come to me saying “It just happened overnight” and then started asking questions such as, “How do I get rid of these brown spots that are showing up on my face?” Or “When did my triceps turn into bat wings?“
Below are my tips that go beyond going to the gym, eating your fruits and vegetables, and having a basic skin care regimen to keep aging at bay!
Sleep Well
Getting 6-8 hours of sleep is something a lot of us can only dream of. Between school, sports, meetings, running a business, cooking dinners, and not to mention trying to maintain a social life, I am guilty of not getting enough of the quality sleep my body and mind needs. The new habits I’ve started are turning off the TV at least a half hour before bed, reading for a bit or turning on a podcast. And I always make sure my day is mapped out for the following morning with goals and items to accomplish. This way, I don’t have to swim in anxiety at night, that I am forgetting to prioritize what needs to get done.
After settling in for the night, I turn on some white noise, setting the volume very low, then letting it run through the night.
